Mega Mitchell Consulting Ltd is an independent consultancy specialising in organisational development and business improvement in Higher Education. It is based in Newcastle upon Tyne, (UK) and operates nationally and internationally for a wide range of HE clients. Consultant Paul Mitchell brings to its varied business assignments a deep knowledge of HE, coupled with extensive experience of the delivery of academic and student services in the HE sector.  He draws on very wide experience of strategic leadership and management at corporate level, following  a professional career in HE at the Universities of Newcastle upon Tyne (as Academic Registrar) and Manchester, coupled with a well developed knowledge of the educational and public sectors. He is very experienced in operating at a strategic level with a wide-ranging group of high profile stakeholders.

The Company focuses on a wide range of client activity including:

  • improving business efficiency, delivering cost savings and enhancing service delivery
  • undertaking service reviews and identifying system improvements, new structures and new models of delivery
  • supporting and managing organisational change
  • scoping institutional options, including opportunities for collaborations and shared services
  • maintaining and enhancing the student experience

Paul has been professionally very active in working with key national bodies in the European and UK HE sectors.  He has worked with senior stakeholders in Higher Education, including HEFCE, Universities UK, the Leadership Foundation, the Quality Assurance Agency, ENQA and various other statutory and professional bodies.  As former Deputy Chair, he has been a prominent member of the national Academic Registrars Council (ARC) and was Chair for many years of its Quality Practitioners Group.  Paul holds a BA Hons degree from the University of Liverpool, an MA from the University of Bristol and is an alumnus of both the Newcastle and North East Regional Common Purpose programmes.

Paul has a strong client list. Projects include assignments for HEFCE, ENQA, for the Leadership Foundation (of which he is an Associate and also Regional Coordinator for Yorkshire and Humberside), Veredus Executive Resourcing, the Academic Registrars Council and the Association of University Directors of Estates; he has led projects for a range of universities including the University of Bedfordshire, Birmingham City University, University of Cumbria, Queen’s University Belfast, St George’s University of London, Leeds Met University, Manchester Metropolitan University, Northumbria University, University of East Anglia, University of the West of England, University of Wales Lampeter, Warwick University and Westminster University. He has also completed a HEFCE Leadership, Governance and Management project relating to professional development. He has also undertaken overseas assignments relating variously to quality assurance and HE reform, most recently in Dublin, France, Kosovo and Spain.

He is also active in the schools sector as a member of the North Tyneside Council Commission of Enquiry into ‘Transforming Education in North Tyneside’, is a Director of the North Tyneside Learning Trust and is Chair of Governors at Whitley Bay High School, a high achieving 13-18 comprehensive school in North Tyneside.
